Online Conference “Language Teaching and Learning in the Modern Educational and Social Environment”

The online Conference organized by the University of Western Macedonia and held from 2 to 4 July 2021, on the topic: “Language Teaching and Learning in the Modern Educational and Social Environment”, was completed with a positive sign and was held under the auspices of the Minister Of Education and Religions and the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Conference was organized by the Institute of Greek Language of the University Research Center TIMENOS of the University of Western Macedonia, the P.M.S. of the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of U.O.W.M. “Education Sciences with New Technologies”, in collaboration with the Lifelong Program “Teaching Greek as a Second / Foreign Language in Intercultural Educational Environments” and the support of the Laboratory of Digital Media and Communication Strategy of the Department of Communication and Digital Media U.O.W.Μ.

Through the very interesting presentations that were presented, issues of language teaching and research were analyzed, the necessity of cultivating Paragrammatisms and the importance of Language teaching in digital environments were emphasized. Innovative interdisciplinary programs and their learning outcomes in language teaching were presented and the importance of adopting alternative methods and assessment practices was highlighted. Issues of teaching the Greek language abroad were also discussed, as well as issues of training of teachers who teach the Greek language.

Renowned academics from Greece, Cyprus and abroad were invited speakers at the conference. Indicatively, Mrs. Anastasiadi-Symeonidi Anna, Mr. Anagnostou Georgios, Mr. Goutsos Dionysios, Mrs. Iordanidou Anna, Mrs. Koutselini-Ioannidou Mary, Mrs. Nikoloudi Stavroula, Mr. Dinas Costas Sella-Mazi Eleni, Mrs. Tresorukova Irina, Tonnet Henri, Mrs. Triarch Basel, Mrs. Psaltou-Joycey Angeliki etc. while the Conference had over 600 participants from Greece and abroad.

The event was greeted by the Rector of U.O.W.M. Professor Mr. Theodoros Theodoulidis, the General Secretary of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Giannis Chrysoulakis, the Deputy Regional Minister of Education and Culture of Western Macedonia Mr. Olga Putahidou, the Regional Director of Education of Western Macedonia Mr. Theodoros Mardiris, the peer Professor of U.O.A. Mr. George Spanos, the Vice President of the University Research Center TIMENOS and Assoc. Professor of U.O.W.M. Mr. Dimitrios Stimoniaris and the Director of the Institute of Greek Language and professor of U.O.W.M. Mrs. Eleni Griva.
